In-Class Essay: Dickinson
Using only your textbook, write an essay responding to the following prompt:
Oftentimes, the poetry of Emily Dickinson is associated with the concept of death. While it is true that several of her more famous poems do relate to the concept of death and the afterlife, it is also true that many of poems develop other central purposes. In a clear, well-organized essay, prove that Dickinson ’s work develops other images and ideas than death by discussing and directly citing from three thematically related poems. Be sure to avoid all the writing errors and trite expressions so often discussed in this class. Also, be sure to avoid major writing errors such as fragments, comma splices, run-ons, and incorrect citation style. Poem titles appear inside of quotation marks. Lastly, be sure to write in a clear, strongly voiced present tense. Please skip lines.
